Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam believes it’s time for Erik ten Hag to get the club back on track this season.

    The Dutch boss has been under immense pressure following his side’s disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season, despite winning the FA Cup ยูฟ่าเบท.

    Speaking to Simon Jordan on the William Hill podcast, Stam said: “For Ten Hag, this is his third season at United – I think it’s going to be good.”

    “I think it’s best he signs a new contract because he still needs some help. He has to look at himself and his performances last season. I don’t always agree with him when he says the team played good football.”

    “I understand that as a manager you want to be positive about your players and help them relieve pressure, but having said that, it’s good to be honest as a manager and say your team is playing poorly.”

    “He has to do well this season. There are a lot of changes happening at the club and the staff, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes.”
